Buffalo Kaplinski has been a fine artist establishing himself in the western United States for the last 36 years. He was born in Chicago in 1943 and attended the American Academy of Art and the Chicago Art Institute. After working as a commercial artist in Chicago, the lure of the southwest took him to Taos, New Mexico (1966) where his career as a fine artist began. The late watercolorist Irving Shapiro was a great influence on my approach as far as good drawing, tonal value and good solid technique. Roy Mason's work was also an influence as far as the desire to work "on-the-spot" directly from nature.

Kaplinski has taken to new heights the medium of watercolor in the traditional transparent way of working. At the age of 20, he had a plein aire watercolor accepted by the American Watercolor Society for its National Exhibition. Over the years, his works have been added to numerous
