for the artist. "Not only am I painting the haunting beauty before me, I feel I'm helping preserve these lands for future generations," Chrisman says. She also paints historic buildings.
Chrisman considers herself a colorist and modernist. "It is the abstraction in nature that excites me to paint," she says, "and New Mexico provides me with the abstract shapes that I love and must paint, along with the colors and warm light." Chrisman lives in Albuquerque, where she is on the faculty of the Harwood Art Center; she plans a move to Taos in the summer. She continues to work with the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance to capture endangered places on canvas and help protect their rare beauty.
