First,
Greg McHuron immerses himself in a setting, then he paints it. He might
hunt an area, fish its streams, strap on cross country skis to explore its
woods, or hike its craggy peaks. But he has to know it well before he puts
his brush to canvas. Living in the shadow of the Grand Tetons of Wyoming
for over thirty years, McHuron knows his subject matter intimately. Generally
painting on location, he studies the russet colors of faded grasses, the
violet hues of the shadowy waters, the play of light on snow, always with
an eye toward the right mood and setting. Honing in on the landscape, its
creatures and its impressions on him, McHuron strives for mood over detail.
He has a degree in art from Oregon State University, worked in interior
design in Eugene, Oregon and painted and studied extensively with master
landscape artist Conrad Schwiering. McHuron has paintings in a large number
of private and corporate collections across America. His work is also on
permanent display at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole,
Wyoming.
